Iyooh! I wept as i read the first paragraphs, tears welled up in my eyes (literally) as i imagined the suffering that has been endured by many Zimbabweans some of whom are good friends of mine.

I remember one Friday I caught a taxi from Braamfontein to go home ,as I usually did to go see my family in the township when i was still in university. As the taxi drove in main street that enters the township, we were met by people running the opposite direction, behind them was a panga wielding mob singing and chanting. This was during the Xenophobic attacks.

Under a tree was an elderly lady probably in her late 60’s sitting down, probably because she could not run anymore, holding what probably was her two grand children with both her hands. She had clearly given up running. I saw the terror in their eyes. I remember being overcome with complete dejection and despondency as i saw the feats of cruelty we are capable of once we abandon the ability to share and understand the feelings of another. The reason i am retelling this is because the blog post reminded me of that horrible scene and the suffering our Zimbabwean brothers an sisters have been subjected to.

A very sobering post Lebza, to remind us to constantly put our hope in Christ.

This is lovely piece Mulenga, thank you. I imagine that many parents could have similar reservations regarding homeschooling their kids; it does seem like -if for a none parent like me- a task for only the brave. It’s good to have a piece unpacking the reservations and pointing instead to the Lord’s ability. May the Lord be praised for your resolve to faithfully serve your children as mother, teacher and educator.

What a good read Lebs!…Very convicting for me. I know i am more responsible now – I must be a servant and a representative of Christ in the world , in my family and especially to my son. I read somewhere that “Good manners and common courtesies are a basic ways to express love for our neighbors.” …….so lets start there!

How about we start by greeting one another, our neighbors, strangers & PRAY WITHOUT CEASING.

I dig it!
Practical things we can do?
I’d suggest we be those neighbors that make cookies or cupcakes for our neighbors (then again, with the sugar tax coming up… we night have to make them salads).
We could invite them over for a braai
We could keep an ear (and eye, I guess) out for ways in which we can be of assistance… say a neighbor has a new born that’s fussy, we could provide some sort of relief
We could also pray for them (nothing builds love for another in my life like praying for them).
I think a general fearless pursuit of them will be great!

They may not welcome our gestures or invites but love doesn’t have to be reciprocated to be true (hehe, sorry for the cheesiness… I’m a cheese lover #aLittleCheeseNeverHurtNobody #sorryIfYouHaveACheeseAllergy #IDontUsuallyDoThisButFeelANeedToBecauseLebo #canThisLengthyResponseCountAsAPost)
